Portrait: Grégory Lemarchal

This is the second post in a category of articles I am calling "Portrait" (feel free to pronounce that the English or French way). I profile the lives of some famous French (or Canadian) people, particularly whose work I admire. This Portrait is about Grégory Lemarchal, the late French pop star.

Grégory Lemarchal was born May 13, 1983. He was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at a very early age, which eventually took his life at the age of 23 this past April. Grégory became famous in 2004 as the winner of the French music contest Star Academy, which is very similar to American Idol, but also has more dancing. His only studio album was released in 2005, and entitled Je deviens moi. After his death a posthumous album entitled La voix d'un ange was released. Although doctors were amazed that Grégory was able to sing with his condition, his music sounds flawless. The Association Grégory Lemarchal has more information on how you can make a donation to aid the search for a cure to CF. His music is not available on iTunes, but you can buy most of his CDs and those of Star Academy at Amazon.com.
